The shovel awaits its fifth weekend of work.
The same snow that arrived December 20 is still here. There's been a little melting and sublimation but it's mostly still here. We haven't bothered to put away the shovel because every day the forecast says "Chance of snow." Yesterday it said, "Snow likely." This is what we woke to find--and it is still snowing.
Usually I don't mind Denver winters. We have the occasional 4 to 6 inches of snow, make a snowman and two days later it is melted--a mere memory--preserved only in photos. This past month the daily high temperatures have stayed just below freezing and the only snow that leaves does so by truck.
I have a huge case of cabin fever. Actually it is just "inside" fever. We can change cabins and go from inside the house to inside a store to inside somewhere else. When the snow first came we had a day or two around Christmas and New Year when we could bundle up and walk outside. Now the cold and wind have moved in and we've had single digit daytime highs. I'm tired of this. I don't like climate change! It is no longer fun to look for soup and stew recipes. I want my Denver winters back! Waaah!
"How can one in love with spring
Ever love this winter thing
Of Leafless trees
And drifts of snow
With frigid temperatures
Below
The freezing mark?"
