A river runs through Denver and one urban dweller takes advantage.
While much of the Northeast is cocooned during a blizzard, Denver is enjoying days of 50+ degrees. Today is predicted to hit 63. Yesterday we walked for two hours around Confluence Park located, as the name suggests, at the confluence of Cherry Creek and South Platte River. They join and become the North Platte. It is one of my favorite parks with bike and walking trails, urban art and of course the river and its resident waterfowl.
I never expected to love urban life so much, being raised on a ranch near a small rural community. Perhaps it is because Denver had its roots first as a mining town and then later as a "cow town." Currently the city accomodates the best cultural development along with social and ethnic diversity and moderate weather. My husband commuted by plane to Salt Lake City, New York and Atlanta for most of his airline career so that we could live and raise our children in Denver. Now we along with many Minnesotans and North Dakotans are retired here.
