Clown illustration on children's nesting blocks from about 1915
Last weekend I was rummaging through some boxes of things we brought from my husband's father's boyhood home. I found two nesting blocks made with illustrated paper pasted onto hollow balsa wood rectangles. We are guessing that they were bought/made about 1915. I find the depictions of both the clown and the gift bearer intriguing. Does anyone recognize these characters? Could these be from Scandinavian folklore? My husband's great-grandparents immigrated from Norway and they had relatives who kept in contact with them. I doubt that I can find where they came from but all eight figures are definitely different from any I've seen.
