Paleo Artists?

 

Paleo artists putting final touches on a permanent installation 

Yesterday I was able to capture the sculptor and crew making final adjustments to a camarasaurus that stands three stories tall in the courtyard of the parking structure at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  The committee for public art in Denver financed the project and the installation was timed to coincide with a new temporary exhibit which opened at DMNS today.

I had no idea there was such a thing as a paleo artist but in talking with museum experts I now understand that when all you have is bones, it takes a great deal of scientific study to determine what the bodies of these animals looked like and how they evolved to be successful in their habitat.

That's a ceratosaurus not a coelophysis, just FYI. No coelophysis in his right mind (even if he did live in the same time period which he didn't) would ever pick on a camarasaurus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks Cindy for calling this to my attention. We actually received a notice from the paleontology department at the museum where I volunteer that the first name plate was incorrect but that was several months later and I never got around to correcting this post.
